Newspaper Supplement

A cluster of ICR initiatives also revolved around the celebration of the International Women's Day (IWD) on 08 March. A newspaper supplement, entitled "Investing in women and girls" which is consistent with the internationally adopted message for the Day, was published to commemorate IWD. The supplement was published in Bangla in the daily Prothom Alo and in English in the Daily Star, which were both widely read nationwide. Bangladesh's initiatives on gender responsive budgeting were included in the article jointly by two Senior Assistant Secretaries of MoWCA. A second article was written on community participation from a gender perspective.

Gender Glossary Bangla

PLAGE II has provided assistance to the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs (MoWCA) to develop a user-friendly gender glossary for government officials, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs). The resource tool has been developed to facilitate common understanding of basic gender terms which are critical to implementation of efforts for gender equality/gender mainstreaming. The Gender Glossary can be an aid to promote basic conceptual clarity. This understanding will facilitate the practitioners in integrating gender equality considerations into policies, programmes, projects and actions.

This Glossary includes definitions of selected gender concepts that are deemed useful for understanding and implementing gender equality policy commitments. The definitions are taken from various sources in and outside Bangladesh. Specific examples, drawn mainly from the Bangladeshi context, are provided to illustrate how the concepts can be applied.

This document is a living document and as such it will be updated as required to make it more relevant and useful for readers and this is in Bangla language.
